Sometimes my Private Commissions give me an opportunity to relive a moment or two of my childhood and this piece is definitely one of those opportunities! I was at High School in the mid-1980′s and Punk was a risque part of the fringes of my small rural town’s society. I often fancied the boys that dressed as punks, not because they were particularly good looking, more because they were so different from all the other boys in the way that they looked and dressed. I didn’t want to be a punk because I wasn’t brave enough to go against the norm, but strangely, when my family moved me to Hong Kong I somehow naturally gravitated towards punk-dom and was constantly met with the phrase ‘Wah – Punk!’ as I walked around!
Doing this T-Shirt was an opportunity to reminisce and laugh at how moving 8,000 miles away at 15 years old gave me the chance to break with the norm and become a rebel without a cause too!
